We have Teaching placements in Belize, Borneo and Papua New Guinea.

A teaching placement with Trekforce is a fantastic opportunity to really experience a culture and make a tangible difference to the children around you. The placements last from 2 to 5 months and are based in rural primary schools where there is a great need for English teaching skills.

You Choose What You Want To Teach...

Want to teach football? Art? Maths? Here is a chance to take your favourite area of interest and apply it to a school for a 2 to 5 month rewarding teaching placement. Not everyone wants to go to a school to teach the stereotypical subjects, therefore we will speak to you about exactly what you are interested or qualfied in and find a school you are most suitabily matched to.

Teacher training

Teacher training aims to provide the basic skills needed for planning and giving lessons, and some great ideas to get started with.  Volunteers will be provided with a good grounding in the cultural differences they are likely to experience during their placement, and an introduction to the languages spoken in the village where they will be working.  By the end of the training, volunteers will know all about the village that they are going to and the family that they will be hosted by.  This teaching training will also give you a chance to think about how you want to teach your chosen subject.

Teaching placement

Equipped with new skills and a renewed energy, volunteers are taken in pairs to their new homes for the next 2 months.  Some of the villages can be quite remote, and are accessible only by a small aircraft, and then a walk in from the airstrip.  Other communities may be a little larger, and levels of development really vary between regions and cultures.  For example, some of the villages might have quite well-equipped schools with basic computers, but are desperately short of staff with the skills to make use of them or teachers with a good standard of English.  Other schools may have a relatively poor level of resources.

teaching placements

Whatever the needs of the school, Trekforce volunteers are warmly welcomed. No previous teaching experience is required, and opportunities to get involved in the community and the school are infinite. Previous volunteers have taught a wide range of subjects, such as English, Maths, Geography, Art and Science, as well as organising events including language weeks, sports days, school plays and days out.  Outside of the classroom, volunteers have built playgrounds, started school newspapers, set up new libraries and established pen-pal schemes with English pupils. Overall, Trekforce volunteers achieve an amazing amount during their placements and become well-respected members of the community.

Living with local families, volunteers gain a rich insight into a very different way of life. During your time in the village, you will be fully supported by Trekforce staff in-country. You will be able to communicate with our own staff whilst on the placement. This includes the Trekforce base and /or in-country staff in case of an emergency and our staff are able to visit you during your placement to make sure everything is going smoothly.
