The trek will likely take place in the Kelabit Highlands. The trek itself is a fantastic reward for your hardwork on the project site. It is a chance to get your rucksack and all your supplies on your back and trek in some of the remoter regions of Borneo.
You could be trekking through small Kelabit or nomadic Penan jungle villages and our guides will be the local tribesmen of the area. We could be trekking in the Pulong Tau National Park where there are over 100 monumnets celebrating the Kelabit and Penan heritage, or you could be trekking within the Kelabit Highlands of North East Sarawak, climbing the highest peak in Sarawak, Mt Murud, or, the fabled twin limestone peaks of Batu Lawi (2,046 metres). As you fly into Bario (the capital of the Kelabit Highlands) by lightaircraft you will be able to see the stunning rainforest below. The trek would start in Bario and take in parts of the fabled "Bario Loop", visiting villages such as Ramudu, Long Seridan and Long Lamei, occasionally staying in longhouses en route.
Aside from our gap year expedition treks, we also have a bespoke extreme trek to Sarawak, Borneo.
Alongside your local guides, this is a fantastic chance to see and experience the rainforest up close and celebrate how the indigenous people live and work in the forest. There will be a chance to practice local techniques and forest survival such as fishing and natural shelters.
