Papua New Guinea cultural ceremony

Papua New Guinea remains one of the world's least explored countries, both culturally and geographically, and numerous undiscovered species of plants and animals are thought to exist in the remote interior of Papua New Guinea, located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.

Only a short flight from Cairns or Brisbane this is the perfect expedition to combine with your travel plans for Australia. Alternatively if you are based in Australia or New Zealand already why not apply for an expediiton of a lifetime, doing something challenging and worthwhile.

The majority of the 6 million inhabitants of New Guinea still practice subsistence based agriculture and live in small rural communities which are often extremely remote and difficult to reach. Even as recently as the late 1950's several remote tribal groups still remained undisturbed and unaware of the outside world until government patrols came across them for the first time.

Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea

Morobe Province is a region of immense cultural and geographical diversity within Papua New Guinea. Stretching from reef fringed islands on the north coast to the rugged inland highlands at an altitude of over 2,500m, Morobe is as unique as it is diverse, which makes it the perfect location for Trekforce Worldwide to operate.

Morobeans are incredibly friendly and hospitable; this is even more notable in the region where Trekforce are based, at the edge of the massive foothills of the highlands amongst lush rainforest and roaring mountain rivers. Traditional greetings involve lavish ceremonies and singsings and visitors are often overwhelmed by gift giving and dancing that can continue for hours.
