It has been proven that by never going anywhere or doing anything alone the risk of loss or injury of a group member is considerable reduced. Pairs of people make better judgements and can look after each other extremely effectively.
For this reason, it is excellent practice to use the buddy system (for want of a better term). This is a system whereby individual group members take on the responsibility for the welfare and accounting of one other team member and vice versa. On expedition, your buddy becomes your closest friend and confidant, helping you to adjust to the unfamiliar environment. Two heads are better than one!
