Shelters are important to protect you against the elements, and provide a raised platform to keep you off the ground. Whilst you won't be directly sleeping under these shelters (you have your hammock and basha ), it is a useful skill to know to construct shelters around camp for food, the fire, kit and the latrine.

Natural shelters need you to have a machete on you or at worst a penknife. Using palm leaves, vines and saplings you can have a comfortable sleeping shelter up in an hour or two. There are generally two methods of construction. Palms leaves can be interwoven and thatched (as below) or laid across a beam, with their stalks as supports.
