In the event of a casualty evacuation, a helicopter will either need a Helicopter Landing Site (HLS) or a Winch Hole Site (WHS). One of the first jobs at project site is to ensure the maintenance and clearing of these sites, in the event that they should they be needed.
Landing a helicopter in the middle of the jungle requires rigorous protocols, including minimum cleared area of 25 metres and marking with smoke or flares. These protocols will be explained to you and practised.
