Jungle environments are invariably hot and humid places, particularly whilst performing manual labour on an expedition. It is important to be able to spot and treat heat related illnesses, and be aware of the body processes associated with them.
Body heat increases directly from radiation from the sun’s rays and from the surrounding environment. If the air temperature is higher than that of the skin, heat will be gained, unless the evaporation of sweat can reduce skin temperature. In addition, the body increases heat production by exercising. A heat related illness can be serious, but is easily avoidable through the simple precautions covered in this lesson.
