During jungle training, there are certain skills that we will teach you, to help you become a more reliable team member in the jungle environment.
It is necessary to be able to navigate in the jungle using map and compass. It is not the aim to teach the serious art of jungle navigation. However, by taking on the basics of navigation the team member will be able to self rescue in a number of different scenarios.
It is necessary to always have certain items of your equipment carried on you at all times. This equipment needs to always be separated from your rucksack so that it can be carried on the body both when you have your rucksack on and when you are away from your rucksack. This is the belt kit. The purpose is to make you self sufficient as an individual, in the event of being separated from the group.
Believe it or not, there is an art to packing a rucksack! This is so that it is easy to carry, it is kept clean and dry and that allows all items in the rucksack to be accessed quickly.
At some point during a jungle expedition a river will have to be crossed. This lesson aims to prepare you to anticipate and evaluate whether a river can and should be crossed. For such an evaluation to be made, basic river dynamics and river crossing techniques will be introduced and demonstrated.
