Trekforce Worldwide

Trekforce Worldwide - Gap Year, Career Break and Extreme Expeditions

What are the costs in detail?

For additional information on funding, please refer to your fundraising booklet or call the office. Each volunteer (trekker) is set a financial target and given a schedule to help reach these targets. Each programme is broken down and you can request this detail from the UK office.

Precisely what does each programme cost?

Each expedition or extended programme has a specific financial target that Trekforce require you to reach. You do not have to fundraise for it all, you can use money that you have earned from working, for example, to make up the total amount. Below are the fundraising targets for some of our expeditions. See our full list of dates and price targets.

Do I need to budget for any extras?

The financial targets do not include international flights or expedition medical, cancellation, curtailment and kit insurance, so you will need to pay for this in addition. We will provide you with the details of a bespoke expedition insurance in your Joining Instructions booklet. Trekforce do not collect any payments for flights. International flights are the responsibility of the participant, which is an additional cost. Trekforce can put you in touch with an ATOL bonded travel agent and we encourage people to fly together. Alternatively, you can plan your own flights to account for any independent travel that you want to do before or after your expedition, and often a good deal can be found on multi-stop air tickets. If you are planning to travel on after your expedition, you will need to budget for all your living expenses.

Trekforce insists that all volunteers have a comprehensive insurance policy covering cancellation, curtailment and necessary medical treatment including evacuation and repatriation. It is also advisable to purchase personal baggage insurance. Trekforce Worldwide will provide the same professional medical cover on your expedition in the form of medical staff. However it is a condition of booking with us that you have in place adequate expedition medical emergency insurance cover (that will include cancellation and curtailment) whilst on your expedition.

To this end we have arranged a bespoke and comprehensive expedition policy that includes cancellation, curtailment and repatriation, with Campbell Irvine. We strongly recommend you take up this policy and to arrange cover you will need to contact Campbell Irvine direct quoting Trekforce Worldwide.  You are also able to extend your arrangement with Campbell Irvine to cover you from the moment you finish your programme to continue whilst you are on your independent traveling.

You will also need to budget for your personal baggage insurance, vaccinations and required kit. During your time with Trekforce, you will need a bit of extra pocket money, but this will be advised to you at the briefing event as well as highlighted in your joining ibnstructions; before your expedition departs.

Is fundraising necessary in order to reach the target and if so what advice is given?

Trekforce Worldwide is a Charitable Company, registered in England, No. 5876382 and when you sign up you will be set a fundraising target and given a confirmation letter that you are fundraising on behalf of Trekforce Worldwide.

Some volunteers work in order to supplement their money raising activities. When you sign up you will receive a fundraising booklet or you can read more about fundraising now. Volunteers are also encouraged to call the UK office if they need any advice or support.

What deposit do I have to pay? Is it refundable?

To confirm your application for a place on your chosen expedition or extended programme, you will need to send Trekforce Worldwide your first scheduled (non-refundable) installment to your fundraising / financial target of either £200 or £350, with your application. This secures your place on an expedition / programme.

What are the payment terms? What are the cancellations terms?

These will be given to you in the Terms and Conditions before you sign up.  When you do sign up, you will be given a tailored fundraising or money management schedule as a guideline, which helpfully breaks down the financial target into more manageable bits to be spread over several months. Your full amount must be reached by six weeks prior to departure.  If you are unable to go on the expedition / programme you signed up for due to your personal circumstances, we can transfer your money to another expedition of your choice and you can continue fundraising if you have not yet reached the target.
