Extreme Expedition Ratings
The scales below are ONLY relevant for our Extreme Expeditions !
Differing abilities and age groups are not a barrier to completing our expeditions. A desire for adventure and a willingness to overcome challenges are the main criteria for acceptance on a Trekforce Worldwide Extreme Expedition.
Expedition Difficulty
It is difficult to easily assess the ‘difficulty’ of any expedition. Factors such as climate, terrain, personal stamina and fitness, rucksack weight and the length of the day all affect the expedition ‘difficulty’. The ratings below act only as a guide to the normal expedition day that you will expect with Trekforce Worldwide.
- Exploratory and adventurous. Good physical fitness required and outdoor experience preferred but not essential. Trekking or walking on varied ground, but carrying day packs or small rucksacks only of under 10kgs for long days in difficult climates.
- Strenuous. Long days carrying rucksacks of up to 15kgs for up to 4-5 days at a time. Excellent physical and cardiovascular fitness required. Trekking on rough ground and in remote locations is normal. A degree of self reliance and hardiness expected. Challenging.
- Very strenuous. Regular 12 hour days with rucksacks of up to 18-20kgs for up to a week or more. Trek may be at altitude. Remote locations and some hardship are standard, as are difficult living conditions. Extremes of climate may affect the expedition. May cover unexplored territory. Mental preparation and excellent physical fitness are vital.
- Extremely physically and mentally difficult. Mental and physical stamina are vital, as is a sense of humour and a high degree of self reliance. Long days, and heavy rucksacks in extreme locations combine to make these expeditions a true challenge. Some prior expedition experience may be required and/or specific skills (e.g some climbing experience) Post expedition recovery period advised.
Please Note!
Our challenges are expeditions in the truest sense of the word. Conditions can be difficult, and plans may often change rapidly depending on the situation on the ground. All members of the expedition team are partly responsible for achieving the goals of the expedition - teamwork is vital. This is not a tour group – you will not generally have local workers or Trekforce staff to cook and carry your loads for you; our local guides are employed as experts in their environment and within their region, not to wake you up in the morning with cups of tea! We will however ensure that differing abilities are recognised and catered for, and will ensure your safety, your comfort wherever possible and above all your enjoyment of your expedition throughout.
