Every Trekforce project is carried out at the request of, and in cooperation with, a local project partner and with the support of the host government and local community. Trekforce permanent staff in each country will discuss the project with the partner and visit the proposed site. Before we agree to take on a project, we will need to be satisfied that it is both worthwhile and sustainable.
Watch Antonio, Warden of Elijio Panti National Park talk about Trekforce.
Pemanaca Ngimat, BBS, Paramount Chief of the Kelabit
"On behalf of the Kelabit community, I would like to extend our
appreciation, and thank you for the marvellous work and help that you
rendered to our local schools in the Kelabit Highlands."
Waidi Sunn Ph.D, Group Manager, Research and Development Division, Yayasan Sabah Group
"We appreciate the volunteers who take up the challenge of coming to
this remote part of Sabah and contribute in a practical way to the
conservation of Maliau Basin. We are indeed very grateful for their
assistance."
Mr Francis Fonseca, Chief of Staff, Office of the Prime Minister of Belize
"We regard Trekforce as a true friend of Belize and we look forward to your gracious assistance in our rebuilding efforts."
Local Counterpart, Papua New Guinea
Trekforce's ethos, doctrines and procedures have proven very
professional in every regard. It's amazing to see the depth of your
company's work beyond trekking, particularly in providing remote
communities with such valuable project support"
Most of the funds raised by Trekforce volunteers are spent on the projects themselves or on in-country support. This includes transport, food, tools and safety equipment, and wages for local guides and carpenters.
These funds may also be used to pay for building materials. However on the larger construction projects we would expect the project partner to match our contribution with additional grants from sources such as DfID, UNDP, the EU, the FCO small grants scheme, or the World Bank.
